Tennessee - 11: George Washington - 7 The Tennessee Volunteers finished their trip to Lexington, KY with another divisional matchup against the George Washington University Colonials. This is GWU first season in the Southeastern Lacrosse Conference, Northwest division.

Tennessee gave the Colonials a strong welcoming present with a win, their second divisional win. UT's divisional record is now 1-2, GWU being their first win the the division. Junior Matt Herner (Louisville, KY; Trinity) recorded his second hat trick of the season to lead the UT offensive threat. Freshman Griffin Young (Nashville, TN; Father Ryan) was close behind with two goals and six other Vols netted goals to round out the Vol's scoring.

Senior David Catterton got the start in cage for the Vols. He had a great comeback game after a lackluster showing against the UK Wildcats. He made 11 saves and posted a .611 save percentage to hold off the Colonial offense.

This game was a well-rounded day for UT in the groundball collumn. Taylor Szalay (Memphis, TN; Houston HS) led the team, scooping up seven gb's, and going 10-19 at the faceoff X. Defenseive midfielder Sam Kachline (Signal Mountain, TN; McCallie) was next with four groundballs, while eight other Vols scooped up two or three gb's.

Next weekend, the Volunteers will make the trip up to Morgantown, WV for their second-to-last divisional matchup against the WVU Mountaineers.

Tennessee - 8: Kentucky - 12 The Tennessee Volunteers faced big SEC rival, the Kentucky Wildacts, for their first game coming out of spring break. This was UT's first divisional matchup since Virginia Tech in February.

Three different Vols all notched two goals: Jason Springer (Brentwood, TN; Brentwood HS), Paul Dingee (Brewster, NY, Brewster HS) and Kevin O'Neil (Herndon, VA; Chantilly). Two other Vols also scored goals to pace the Tennessee offense.

Despite going 5-18 on faceoffs, Taylor Szalay (Memphis, TN; Houston HS) led the team with five groundballs. Senior defenders David Ruben and Micheal Middleton (Baltimore, MD; Boy's Latin) were close behind with four gb's a piece. Three other Vols also scooped up three groundballs bringing UT's total to 27 gb's.

Next on UT's schedule is another, and newcomer, divisional opponent George Washington University.

Tennessee - 10: Florida - 4 For the University of Tennessee's last game before going into spring break, they hosted SEC rival the Florida Gators. UT was able to come away with a big win to build some momentum going into their two week break.

Both teams seemed to be testing the waters in the early stages of the game, neither would get on the scoreboard in the first quarter. The Volunteers would come alive in the second, scoring three goals. They kept the scoring pace throughout the match, netting four in the third and three in the fourth.

Barry Hillyer (Memphis, TN; MUS) would again lead the team in scoring with another hat trick plus one. This is Hillyer's sixth hat trick of the season, and leads the team with 30 goals this year. Kevin O'Neil (Herndon, VA; Chantilly) had two goals. Four other Vols registered single goals to round out the team's scoring in dominate fashion.

Tennessee's defense was stout against the Gators, and was the third time this season that they allowed only 4 goals. Two other previous contests saw four goals allowed, a loss to Georgia Tech and a win against Ole Miss. Close defender David Ruben (Memphis, TN; MUS) scooped up four groundballs. Defender Stephan Hatfield (Oak Ridge, TN; Oak Ridge HS) and defensive midfielder Sam Kachline (Signal Mountain, TN; McCallie) both nabbed three.

Junior Chris Melson (Memphis, TN; Loyola College Prep) started in goal for the Vols. He was able to stifle the Gators scoring chances throughout the contest. He made nine saves on the day, and currently leads the team in save percentage (.589) and in goals against average (GAA; 4.6)

After spring break, the Vols will travel to Lexington, KY for two big divisional matchups. First, they take on SEC rivals the Kentucky Wildcats. The day after that, they face new divisional foe, the George Washington University Colonials.

Tennessee - 11: Western Michigan - 12 The final day of the annual Volunteer Invitational saw an intesnse game between the Vols and the Western Michigan Broncos. The contest was a great one and but the Vols eventually lost in double-overtime.

The two teams spent much of the game going goal-for-goal. The Vol's goals-per-quarter was 3-3-2-3, so they had pretty even pace to thier offense during the game. Kevin O'Neil (Herndon, VA; Chantilly) led the Vols with four goals, while freshman Griffin Young (Nashville, TN; Father Ryan) made his presence felt on the field with his first hat trick of the season. Three other Vols would contribute to the scoring to round out the UT offense.

The faceoff corp was hit or miss on the day. Taylor Szalay (Memphis, TN; Houston HS) won 9-17, while Justin Kaemmerer (Knoxville, TN; Bearden HS) dominated going 7-9. He also lead the team with five groundballs. Defender and LSM, David Ruben (Memphis, TN; MUS) and Chris Koloup (Towson, MD; Loyola Blakefield) respectively, followed close behind with four groundballs a piece.

Senior keeper David Catterton (Brentwood, TN; Brentwood HS) had another stellar day between the pipes. He made 17 saves to keep his Vols in the game all the way through two overtimes.

This tough loss closed out Tennessee's annual trip to Memphis for the Volunteer Invitational. The Vols went 2-1 on the trip. They are now looking forward to thier last game before the spring break as they take on SEC rival Florida in Knoxville.

Tennessee - 16: Iowa State - 6   For the day two matchup of the Volunteer Invitational, UT took on the Iowa State Cyclones. At this point in the Vol's season, this game has been their best in terms of offensive production.

Six different Vols found the back of the net. Barry Hillyer (Memphis, TN; MUS) and Kevin O'Neil (Herndon, VA; Chantilly) led the team in scoring with a double hat trick and hat trick plus one, respectively. Even LSM Blake Hennessey (Memphis, TN; MUS) was able to cash in on a Cyclone defense that could not handle the UT firepower.

Sophomore netminder Chris Melson (Memphis, TN; Loyola College Prep) was able to stifle the Cyclone's scoring attempts. He made eight saves on the day. Defender David Ruben (Memphis, TN; MUS) and defensive midfielder Sam Kachline (Signal Mountain, TN; McCallie) had five groundballs. Although attackman Paul Dingee (Brewster, NY; Brewster HS) led the team with six gb's.

For the final day of competition at the Volunteer invitational, the Vols will take on the Western Michigan Broncos.
