SBCC Women's Lacrosse Club Open Try-Outs

Bookmark and Share Printer Friendly Jul. 23, 2012

SBCC File PhotoSanta Barbara, CA - Beginner practices and try-outs for the 2012-13 SBCC women's lacrosse club will take place the first and second week of Fall Semester. This is an open try-out process and while experience is welcome it is not required. Beginners may play lacrosse at SBCC. The ability to commit to being on the team and incorporate this great team sport into your personal college experience is all that's required. Basketball, field hockey, soccer, softball and volleyball are among the different athletic backgrounds that help on a lacrosse field.

Beginner Lessons and Try-Out Schedule, August 28th - 31st:

  • Week One - Beginner Lessons are Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 2pm to 4pm.
  • Week Two - Try-Outs For Everyone are Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 2pm to 4pm.
  • All sessions are on the turf at UCSB by the RecCen, near the main bus circle, or on the UCSB Lacrosse Field, adjacent to the baseball and softball stadiums.

Experienced players may come out to help with the beginner lessons. Fall Ball continues after try-outs on a Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 2:00pm to 4:00pm schedule for six weeks. Fridays feature joint scrimmages with the UCSB Fall Ball Squad once they start practice.

Sticks will be provided for beginners who would like to give it a try.  Fill out the Player Info Form on this website to get on the list to receive more information. Head coach Eric Valois will get a copy of your information from the form.

Class & Practice Schedule:

Contact Angela Warren for help with getting a class schedule that fits with lacrosse practice. SBCC women's lacrosse is a club in the Office of Student Life and Angela Warren is the team advisor and also the Director of the SBCC Transfer Academy. The best thing to do is clear TThFr 2:00pm to 4:00pm and Angela can help you do it.

Housing:

We recommend that incoming lacrosse players consider Tropicana Gardens Residence Hall as a dorm option. It is close to the lacrosse field at UCSB where SBCC and UCSB teams run joint practices. Additional benefits include apartment style living, an unlimited access cafeteria, weekly housekeeping and an MTD bus stop for the express bus to SBCC.

Students who fashion a good class schedule of most classes on Mondays & Wednesday along with morning classes on Tuesdays & Thursday and who live in Tropicana Gardens will find participating in lacrosse a breeze.
