UTC Gets to .500 With Two Big Wins - Mar 7, 2014

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's lacrosse team came back from 1st quarter deficits in two consectutive games, pulling out wins against both Mississippi State (11-6) and Alabama (11-10).

Freshman midfielder Brady Dixon opened up the scoring against State off of a fast break. Early penalties by the Mocs and a lack of finishing saw a 2-3 scoreline in favor of the Bulldogs at the end of the quarter. From there, it was all UTC. A flurry of six goals gave the Mocs an 8-4 halftime lead. Two second half man-up goals were all State could muster, as a four goal performance by Calvin Fluhr and a brace for both Luke Turner and Wes Rausch kept a five goal buffer between the teams throughout the night. The victory was the first meeting between the two teams since 2009 to be decided by more than a single goal.

The following day, the Mocs headed to Tuscaloosa to take on MCLA D-I Alabama. The game was one of streaks, as Bama opened up a 3-0 lead in the opening minutes before UTC managed to pull back to a 5-5 halftime stalemate. A 4-0 3rd quarter saw the Tide go up 9-5, setting the stage for a 6-1 4th quarter in favor of the Mocs. Highlights included a goal by defenseman Adam Harbin, goals by all six offensive starters, four assists by Andrew Evans, a hat-trick for Luke Turner, and a last minute game winner by Austin Watters.

Mocs Fall in Season Opener - Feb 4, 2014

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's lacrosse team fell 2-12 to NCAA D-III Huntingdon in the opening game of the 2014 season. Narrowly missed chances and a great showing by Huntingdon's goalie stifled the Mocs throughout the game.

Wes Rausch opened the scoring midway through the first quarter with a dodge from the wing. Huntingdon drew level a few minutes later, leaving the score 1-1 at the end of the first.

Following a four goal Huntingdon run over the second quarter, Calvin Fluhr added UTC's second and final goal to cut the deficit down to a 2-5 Huntingdon lead.

Untimely penalties and some missed opportunities saw the Hawks score 7 unanswered goals to close out the game.

The Mocs return to action this weekend, as they travel to Waleska, GA to take on Georgia State (Saturday 3 pm) and Reinhardt (Sunday 1 pm).

UTC Gears Up for Title Defense - Jan 21, 2014

Ranked #23 in the NCLL D-II Preseason Top-25 Poll, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's lacrosse team enters the 2014 season looking for a third straight Deep South Conference championship and trip to the NCLL National Tournament.

Coming off of a 3-2 record during fall ball, the Mocs begin the season with six straight away games, before returing to Chattanooga for the final six games of the regular season.

The season begins with a trip to NCAA D-III opponent Huntingdon. The Hawks are coming off of a 7-8 campaign in 2013, which featured a 16-6 win over DSC rival, Mississippi State.

UTC then visits Waleska, GA to take on Georgia State in a neutral site matchup before facing off against MCLA D-II Reinhardt. The Mocs dropped games against both teams last year, losing 14-19 to GSU and 1-14 to Reinhardt.

MCLA D-II Tennessee Wesleyan hosts the Mocs following a hard fought 7-6 UTC win during the fall. The Bulldogs are coming off their 5th SELC Tournament appearance in six years.

UTC opens up Deep South Conference play with a trip to Starkville, MS to play Mississippi State. The last four meetings between the teams have been decided by a single goal, with UTC winning the last three; including a come from behind 9-8 OT victory in the 2013 DSC Championship Game.

The last away game of the season sees the Mocs visit the University of Alabama for the first time since 2011.

The month long homestand starts off with visits from DSC rival Memphis and Morehouse. The Mocs split both games with Memphis in 2013, falling 12-14 in the regular season before avenging that loss in the DSC Tournament Semi-Finals with a 9-7 win. This will be UTC's first game against Morehouse, one of only four HBCU (Historically Black College and University) lacrosse programs in the country.

UTC plays host to Cincinnati, the 2012 NCLL D-II National Champions and runners-up in 2011 and 2013. The Bearcats have since moved up a division, and are ranked #16 in the NCLL D-1 Top-20 Preseason Poll.

The following week sees the Mocs play Western Kentucky for the first time since 2008, and the Point Skyhawks, who UTC defeated 12-2 in Memphis last season.

The regular season concludes with in-state rival Middle Tennessee. Having played since 2008, the Blue Raiders hold a 4-3 series lead over the Mocs, with MTSU winning last season's game, 12-11 in overtime.

This season's Deep South Conference Tournament will be held in Chattanooga for the first time ever, with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCLL National Tournament in Piscataway, NJ.

Mocs Cap Off Successful Fall - Jan 21, 2014

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's lacrosse team recently completed their 2013 fall ball season with a 3-2 record.

After travelling across the state, UTC began the day with a 12-8 victory over Mississippi State before closing with a 15-6 win against Memphis.

The next week, UTC played host to Tennessee, Tennessee Wesleyan, and Georgia State. The Mocs started off and ended slow, falling to UT, 2-8, and to GSU, 4-5. Those disappointing results were split by a terrific, last second, 7-6 victory over perrenial SELC D-II power TWC.
