UCSB Defeats Hokkaido 15-2 Second Time Around In HawaiiOct. 28, 2012 Waikiki, HI - The Gauchos played Hokkaido University of Tokyo, Japan for the second time in three days at the Hawaii Lacrosse Tournament. UCSB bettered their first-time performance with the Japanese team. The Gauchos won 9-2 on Friday in a friendly between the two teams. After a disappointing 7-6 quarterfinal loss to three-time defending tournament champion LAX Northwest Rippers the Gauchos had a stinker against Thunder Tribe and now needed to get up emotionally for Hokkaido in a rematch with only a few short hours to do it. UCSB got up alright and lesson learned at the hands of the Thunder Tribe Iroquois in the 15-1 loss. The action and play style the Thunder threw at UCSB was applied by the Gauchos in their game with Hokkaido. UCSB was up 8-1 at halftime enroute to a 15-2 final win, improving plus six on their play against Hokkaido two days earlier. It was the Gauchos winning the loose balls and getting open behind their defenders in transition while the offense put the ball in the net on most of their opportunities. UCSB finished 3-2 overall in Hawaii and played the eventual champion LAX Northwest Rippers the closest of any team in their one goal quarterfinal loss. The Rippers went on to win their fourth consecutive tournament championship with an 8-6 win over LA Mavericks in the semifinals and a 9-6 win over San Diego Club in the final.
The Gauchos will wrap up their Fall Ball season with their Alumni game on Saturday, November 10th, at 11:00am
