UCSB Shuts Out Hokkaido In Second Half In HawaiiOct. 26, 2012 Waikiki, HI - The Gauchos took a 4-2 lead at halftime in a friendly with Hokkaido University of Tokyo, Japan on the opening day of play at the Hawaii Lacrosse Tournament. UCSB outscored Hokkaido 5-0 in the second half for a 9-2 final score. Official tournament games for the Wahine Division start Saturday so the game was not a tournament bracket match-up. UCSB faces the Rocky Mountain Cats in a 10:00am (HST) opening round game for both teams. Nineteen Santa Barbara players have made the trip to the islands. It's the third time UCSB has been to the Hawaii Tournament since 2007. That year the Gauchos went undefeated but played all their games outside the bracket. The only return flight available at a decent fare on Sunday that year took them away from the fields before the end of the tournament. UCSB participated in the full bracket schedule in 2010 and was eliminated 10-9 In Overtime in the semifinals by a stacked Hawaii team that had three Team USA Players on it. Two-time Tewaaraton winner Kristen Kjellman (Northwestern '07 and Team USA) scored the game winner for Hawaii in that one.
