Tribe Thunders Over GauchosOct. 28, 2012 Waikiki, HI - The Thunder Tribe team lowered the boom on UCSB in the Sunday morning game for both teams at the Hawaii Lacrosse Tournament. The Gauchos and the Tribe were both eliminated Saturday in the quarterfinals. UCSB was ousted by three-time tournament champion LAX Northwest Rippers in a 7-6 quarterfinal. Thunder Tribe, made up of Iroquois Nation players, were in the game with UCSB after San Diego Club beat them in their quarterfinal. It was only close at 1-1 early in the game. After that the fastbreaking Thunder made short work of the Gauchos to lead 8-1 at halftime before winning 15-1. Multiple Tribe players were open in transition with constant off-ball movement. Topping it off were the Thunder being adept at finishing their chances and then winning most of the draw controls so UCSB didn't get many possessions of their own. UCSB moving in slow motion wasn't the only thing that led to the lopsided result. The Gauchos were caught spectating on defense many times but it were also Tribe players never standing still, even when far, far away from the ball, that put the Thunder attackers goalside of the UCSB defense too many times to count. The loss put UCSB into a final consolation game with Hokkaido University of Tokyo, Japan. The Gauchos succeeded 9-2 in a friendly with Hokkaido on Friday before tournament bracket play started and now faces getting excited to play the Japanese team again.
