UCSB File PhotoBoulder, CO - UCSB finished their four game road trip in the Rocky Mountains with a game at University of Colorado. The game was played through freezing rain, hail and snow with both thunder and lightning audible and visible  at times in the distance. The second ranked Buffalos led 8-4 at halftime before the weather turned truly foul. Colorado then outscored the 6th ranked Gauchos 6-3 in the second half as just about every known weather phenomenen blew across the Kittredge Field turf.

The Gauchos had difficulty clearing the ball in the first half when the weather was still okay. Some passes were thrown right to the Buffalos while others ended up out of bounds. Colorado capitalized on the turnovers to get the four goal halftime lead. UCSB wasn't on offense very much but when they were they were effective, scoring 4 goals on 9 shots.

"We can't truly blame not being used to that type of weather since Colorado's best half came during the mostly decent conditions," said UCSB head coach Paul Ramsey.

"This was mostly due to giving them the ball back after playing pretty good defense but then turning it over and them converting on the second chances they got on offense."

The first ten minutes of the second half was Buffalos all over the place getting draw controls and ground balls and converting. As the weather turned truly ridiculous UCSB got an unassisted goal from junior Maegan Cruse (San Diego, CA) with 20:10 remaining. Counting that goal UCSB outscored Colorado 3-2 the rest of the way in the sloppiest of conditions with goals also scored by sophomore Lindsay Remigio (Syosset, NY) and senior Alyssa Nelsen (Denver, CO).

"We will work on clearing and our transition game a lot this week and we will get better at it," concluded Ramsey.  "We clean that up and the next time we play it's a different game."

Sixth ranked UCSB dropped to 10-6 overall with one game remaining in the regular season. The Gauchos went 2-2 on the difficult four game road trip playing in the Rocky Mountain Shootout. Colorado improved to 14-1. UCSB plays at home on April 10th when they host San Diego State in a 10:00am game in Harder Stadium. It is the senior game for the two seniors on the UCSB roster.
