SBCC Scores 18 Goals, Downs UCSD 'B' in Exhibition OpenerBox Score
Feb. 5, 2011 Santa Barbara, CA - SBCC opened up the season with a 18-7 win in an exhibition game against UCSD 'B'. Freshman Liz Enea (San Ramon, CA) scored the first two goals of the goame to get SBCC off to a quick start. UCSD cut the Vaqueros lead in half and in the next two minutes the two teams traded goals to make the game 3-2 before SBCC went on a 5-0 scoring run. The Tritons would end the half scoring off a free position to make the half time score 8-3.
To start the second half the teams traded goals before SBCC sophomore Cassie Aroyan (El Dorado Hills, CA) scored three straight to make the score 12-4. Following two more free position shot conversions by UCSD the Vaqueros went on a 4-0 scoring run before UCSD would score 11 seconds from the end of the game.
Aroyan led all scorers with 7 goals, while sophomore Lauren Sutter (Pleasanton, CA) led the team with 3 assists. Freshman goalkeeper Annie Ostergard made 7 saves on 14 shots against.
"It was a total team effort today, we played great team defense and our offense was patient and looked for the open player," commented first year head coach Lindsay Feig.
SBCC opens up the regular season with an away game against Cal State San Marcos on Saturday, February 12th, at 1:00pm.
