SBCC Women's Lacrosse Spring Schedule Released

Bookmark and Share Printer Friendly Nov. 25, 2009

Santa Barbara, CA - The Santa Barbara City College women's lacrosse club released their Spring Schedule today. The program opens with small sided exhibition scrimmages in the UCSB 3 v. 3 Tournament on January 31st. After a weekend off the Vaqueros will open the regular season with Marymount College of Palos Verdes. SBCC hosts Marymount at La Playa Stadium in a 7pm match-up on Friday, February 12th. It is the first game all-time between community college women's lacrosse teams in California. The two teams end the season with each other as well with a 12 Noon game at Marymount on Saturday, April 24th.

Hundreds of four year schools and thousands of high schools have recently started playing women's lacrosse in the west but these two year school programs are the only known community college women's lacrosse teams west of the Mississippi. With all the preps playing the game it's only a matter of time before more two year school programs start but SBCC and Marymount will always be the first two programs in California.

Following the inaugural community college match-up with Marymount the Vaqueros play in the Santa Barbara Shootout at UCSB February 13th & 14th. Regular season games on four other weekends follow with the clubs from UNLV, Sonoma State, Cal Poly SLO 'B', Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Long Beach to make up the season. The schedule is set up so the SBCC team plays every other weekend and has multiple weekends off during the season. The Vaqueros will also not be playing during their spring break.

The complete schedule may be found on the Schedule & Results page on the team website.
