Western Women's Lacrosse League Santa Barbara, CA - The Santa Barbara Ci ty College women's lacrosse club was approved as a Full Member in the Western Women's Lacrosse League at the group's meeting held today at UCSB. Membership categories in the WWLL are Full, Provisional and Associate. SBCC will compete in Division Two of the WWLL in the South Region (South DII). Full member teams are eligible for play-offs and individual players are eligible for all-league selection. The news comes on the heels of the word released yesterday that former UCSB head coach Diana Garcia will coach the Vaqueros. Additional news is that UCSB was selected as the host institution for the WWLL Championships April 18 - 19. The Gauchos will host the 8 team WWLL DI championship and the 4 team WWLL DII championship. SBCC now has the goal of competing for a spot in the play-offs to play for the championship only 8 miles up the road from their campus in the first year as a Full Member of the WWLL.

Discussion at the WWLL meeting included the short term goal of encouraging the growth and development of community college women's lacrosse. It also included the long term goal of having a division consisting entirely of teams from two year higher education institutions. With the recent rapid growth of lacrosse in middle schools and high schools throughout California, community colleges will soon see an influx of students looking to play lacrosse while they pursue transfer to a four year institution.
