Los Angeles, CA - The Vaqueros won 14-5 on the road over the UCLA B team to clinch the Western Women's Lacrosse League Central D2 automatic qualifier and punch their ticket to the state play-off tournament in San Diego next weekend. The win over the Bruins makes it a perfect regular season for SBCC. The Vaqueros, who are now 9-0 overall and 4-0 in WWLL Central D2, wait for Sunday news about their seed and opponent in the semifinals of the four team bracket for the state play-offs.

Freshman Kia Kofoed (Orinda, CA) started the scoring when sophomore Sabrina Forbes (Santa Clarita, CA) spotted Kofoed open 17 seconds into the game and Kofoed finished. Kofoed also snagged the draw control that led to the possession and it was one of her game high nine draw controls. Forbes led everyone on assists with three in the game and also scored five goals. Kofoed finished with 3 goals and 2 assists. SBCC led 5-2 at the end of the first quarter.

The Bruins came out hard the second quarter and it was a lot of up and down the field action to the delight of the fans but only a 1-1 score. Both teams fatigued during the extra running in that period but the Vaqueros weathered the push by UCLA and led 6-3 at halftime. The Vaqueros distanced themselves from UCLA with a 5-1 third quarter and a 3-1 fourth quarter to outscore the Bruins 8-2 in the final 30 minutes of the game.  Sophomores Marianna Gamet (Redondo, CA) and Valeria Bond (Livermore, CA) scored three goals and two goals, respectively, and freshman Ally Brubaker (Laguna Niguel, CA) also scored a goal.

"It was nice to get playing again after the time off during spring break," said SBCC coach Paul Ramsey, "and I hope we shook off all the rust." Ramsey continued, "I like our chances in San Diego if we come out clicking and take care of the ball."

"It will be about bringing the energy, playing at a championships level and finishing when we get the opportunity," added Ramsey.

Sophomore goalie Tatum Davis (Redondo, CA) had a season high 11 saves while facing 16 shots. SBCC outshot UCLA 31-16 but the feisty Bruins took the most shots on the Vaqueros all season. Davis was tested and turned them away.

UC San Diego is hosting the WWLL Championships and the other AQ D2 participants are Cal State San Marcos (9-1, 5-0) and UC Santa Cruz (8-2, 5-0). Cal State Fullerton (8-4, 3-2)  seems the likely lone at-large selection. More information about the event is on the WWLL website Play-Offs page. Seeds, matchups and the schedule will be posted there Sunday night.  The qualifying has happened. Winning two more games gerts SBCC the state championship for their division.
