Fullerton, CA - The Vaqueros had a 7-3 halftime lead on the road at Cal State Fullerton in a WWLL D2 Inter-Region game but in this matchup with the aggressive Titans it didn't seem like much of a lead. Fullerton were 3-1 going into the contest with wins over the clubs from Chico State, Weber State and Stanford. Their lone loss was a 10-14 contest with 2022 WWLL North D2 first place UC Santa Cruz. Unlike the last three cruise control wins for SBCC it took some effort and composure from the Vaqueros to break it open. It were a 6-0 third quarter that did just that and SBCC was on their way to a 14-5 win in their first away game.

Sophomore Kiara Kofoed (Orinda, CA) snagged nine draw controls during the game and overall SBCC won that battle with 17 of 21 draw controls going the way of the Vaqueros. The possessions on those 50/50 balls made a big difference for SBCC. Sophomore Sabrina Forbes (Santa Clarita, CA) led all scorers with 6 goals and 2 assists for the Vaqueros. Sophomore Marianna Gamet (Redondo, CA) scored two goals and again, for the fourth game, scoring was balanced for SBCC with eight players getting in on goals and assists.

"This is the first game this season we felt the other team was playing defense and the other goalie was making saves," commented Coach Paul Ramsey.  "It was nice to see our composure in the face of that pressure and to come out after halftime to score six unanswered goals to put it away."

"Good teams are going to bring it on defense and we're going to get bumped around so how we play with pressure on ball and the other team covering us off-ball is how we progress to championship level," added Ramsey.

The Vaqueros outshot Fullerton 30-11 to win 14-5. Sophomore goalie Tatum Davis (Redondo, CA) faced more shots in one game than all previous games combined and saved 6 of the 11 shots on goal by the Titans. SBCC improved to 4-0 while the Titans dropped to 3-2.  The Vaqueros enjoy a week off and play next at Biola on February 25th and then at Fullerton CC on February 26th. Cal State Fullerton plays next at Cal State San Marcos on February 18th.
