Q: Why Ole Miss?

A: Ole Miss offers a great education, warm weather year-round, big-time SEC athletics, and beautiful women just to name a few of the outstanding things that it has to offer. According to thebestcolleges.org, Ole Miss is ranked the #28 most beautiful college campus in the country; the best ranking among all SEC schools. Ole Miss has been ranked #1 best football tailgating experience in the country by Sports Illustrated. The Grove is a 10 acre grass lot located at the center of campus that has been referred to as "the Holy Grail of tailgating sites" by Sporting News. There is nothing like gameday in Oxford. The downtown area of Oxford is known as the historic Square, in which there are numerous restaurants, bars, and shops where students like to spend their time on the weekends. The business, accounting, law, pharmacy, and journalism programs are among the most competitive programs in the entire country. Those that graduate with an Ole Miss degree are a member of an exclusive, tight-knit alumni group.

Ole Miss also offers students the opportunity to play collegiate lacrosse at an extremely high level in the MCLA conference. By joining our program, you will become part of the growing Ole Miss Lacrosse family.

Q: Who do you play against?

A: Ole Miss plays in the MCLA, which is the premiere lacrosse league in the country for schools that do not yet have Division 1 varsity programs. Ole Miss competes in the SELC, a 20 team conference consisting mostly of teams from the SEC, but also some ACC, C-USA, and Big East schools. Ole Miss, Alabama, Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Auburn make up the SELC Southwest Division. Games and scrimmages are also scheduled against teams that are not in the SELC. We have even scrimmaged D3 teams.

Q: What type of commitment is it to play for Ole Miss?

A: Ole Miss is a club team, which means that we do not receive much funding at all from the University, so it is the responsibility of the club to raise money to fund themselves. That being said, obviously players cannot be expected to commit as much time as a D1 team that receives funding and players that can receive athletic scholarships. However, playing lacrosse at Ole Miss IS A COMMITMENT. Practices run through September to April. In the fall, we practice twice a week for two hours a practice. In the spring, we practice three times a week (again two hours a practice), with games on the weekends. Players are expected to attend every practice and every game, unless they have a legitimate excuse and they notify a member of the executive board.

Q: How much will it cost to play?

A: As previously mentioned, the club has to fund themselves almost exclusively. Thus, players are expected to contribute some funds to the program to help pay for uniforms, equipment, league fees, travel expenses, lodging, and other team apparel. Through fundraising efforts and gaining sponsorships, we are hoping that we can lower the costs as much as possible. Costs can vary from year to year as we are hopefully getting more members to join our team and gaining more funds through sponsors and fundraising. Specific questions can be emailed to Matt Raines at mtraines@olemiss.edu.

Q: I am interested in playing for Ole Miss. How do I join?

A: All potential players can fill out a recruiting form by clicking on the Recruiting link on the side of the page. After submitting the form, the team President and coach will be notified of the submission and will contact the player ASAP.

We will hold a meeting for interested players at the very beginning of fall and then we will hold practice.

Q: Where are your players from?

A: We pull players from all over the country. You can check out our roster for yourself but we will have players from Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, DC, Mississippi, Illinois, Missouri, Texas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Kentucky, and Virginia.
