West Coast Force Playing for 5th Place at Hawaii TournamentOct. 31, 2009 Waikiki, HI - The West Coast Force Under-19 team opened the Hawaii Lacrosse Tournament with a tough match-up against Portland Women's Lacrosse Club. The veteran Portland team went into half-time up 9-0. Matching up in transition proved to be a problem for the Force and it led to numerous transition opportunities for Portland. The second half was better with Portland outscoring the Force only 4-1 for a final 13-1 victory. Due to their placement in the 14 team bracket the Force advanced to the quarterfinals despite the loss and faced the LA Panthers Lacrosse Club. LA started fast and went up 9-1 before the Force again played better in the second half for a 16-3 final. This U-19 Force team is playing together for the first time. The two teams they faced today play together in tournaments on a regular basis. Playing in tournaments is different than playing singles and getting a fast start helps tremendously in short games. The Force are now playing for 5th place on Sunday in the 14 team tournament. They play the ASU Devils at 9:00am on Sunday morning. ASU narrowly defeated San Diego Lacrosse Club 7-5 in their opener and then lost to Force Director Paul Ramsey's East West Sports Camps team 11-3 in the quarterfinals. Win or lose in the morning the Force will play at 1:00pm in their last game of the tournament, either for 5th place or 7th place. East West Sports Camps has advanced to a 10:00am semifinal matchup against the LA Panthers. The championship game is at 3pm.
