Reflecting on the Fall 2011 Season

Bookmark and Share Printer Friendly Apr. 7, 2012

Looking back at the Vikings' season last fall, in context with the great success their Fall competitors are enjoying this spring in their respective leagues, puts the exclamation point on a notable 14-5 Viking record.  Chapman University (ranked #4 in the nation - Division I), St. Mary's College (ranked #13 in the nation - Division II) are leading their respective leagues, while Cal (#10 - Division I), Sonoma State (#13 - Division I), and Southern Oregon are one game out of first place, and will make the playoffs of their respective leagues.  This makes the Vikings fall record all the more amazing.  Against D-I teams, the Vikings held a 2-4 record (losing only to nationally ranked D-I teams), and against D-II teams, the Vikings swept with an 11-0 record.  The final loss came at the hands of NCAA Division II, Notre Dame de Namur. The final win came against Cabrillo College, the second community college in the state to start a lacrosse program.

Given the Vikings sweep of MCLA Division II teams and the current success of some of the leading teams nationally, it makes one stop and reflect on just how talented the Vikings were and how well they played this past season.  It also points toward another exciting Fall '12 season, one that officially begins with its first practice on Saturday, August 4th at 9:00 a.m. at Viking Field in Pleasant Hill.  Go Vikings!!
