CJCLA Launches

The California Junior College Lacrosse Association (CJCLA) is just a few days from launching.  At this point for Fall, 2013, the charter members will be DVC, American River College, Cuesta College and Santa Rosa Junior College.  These four teams will form the first league play this fall.  Stay tuned for the full press release which is currently scheduled for mid-week.

The West Coast Lacrosse League and northern California are well represented in the latest Top 25 national poll out this week on http://mcla.us/polls/2013/week_4/ .  Stanford is #4, Cal is #13, Cal Poly is #15 and Sonoma State is #17!  Way to represent west coast lacrosse, gentlemen!  Best to all of you this season.

Of interest to Viking lacrosse, the Inside Lacrosse pre-season top 25 rankings are in.  Interestingly enough, last Fall, DVC played five of the top 25 Division I teams in the country (and Canada), and concluded with a 3 win, 2 loss record.  The Vikings defeated #21 Stanford, #24 Simon Fraser, and #25 Chico State.  The losses came to 13th ranked Cal, and 14th ranked Sonoma State University.  All in all a pretty great season for Viking Lacrosse!

It's not too early for DVC students or high school seniors who are planning to attend DVC and play lacrosse for the Vikings in the Fall of 2013 to submit their online player application located in the left hand column on this website.  Practice will begin in early August and the season will extend into early December.  MCLA, Division I, Simon Fraser University already has plans to motor on down from Vancouver in October to play AND recruit the Vikings, so it should be another eventful season for the Vikings!

Viking Lacrosse club advisor, Terry Armstrong, has published an article in the iJournal, encouraging other California community colleges to follow the lead of DVC in supporting intercollegiate club lacrosse at the community college level.  Click on the link above and please forward the article to your local community college club offices and student services administrators.
