Vikings win first league game!

Bookmark and Share Printer Friendly Oct. 21, 2013

The Vikings brought home their first league victory in the history of the program by defeating the tough, Santa Rosa Junior College Bear Cubs 10-7.  The game was played in the slip, slide and slop of the Sonoma State University lacrosse field which was inexplicably flooded overnight. The crease areas were so muddy, the goalies had difficulties staying upright and at one point a ball was stepped on in the crease and became buried in the mud and had to be extracted by a Viking player who removee his glove to dig out the ball.  Despite the ridiculousness of the field, the game was close through the first three quarters.  In the middle of the third quarter with the Vikings leading 9-6, the Vikings, after multiple penalites on the field and a conference among the officails (one of the Vikings who was standing on the sideline minding his own business with his mouth shut was inexplicably flagged for an unsportsmanship-like conduct two minute unreleasable penalty), wound up three men down for two minutes.  However, the remaining Viking defenders held tough and prevented SRJC from scoring during this time period, while Devon Bahary of the Vikings scored the 10th and final goal for DVC.

Next up:  Cabrillo College visits DVC at Viking Field this Thursday evening, 10/24 at 7:15 p.m.  This game will be streamed live on Ustream at http://www.ustream.tv/search?q=diablo+valley+college+athletics .
