Former Gaucho Ashley Antoon-Algieri To Coach SBCCJul. 12, 2011 Santa Barbara, CA - Former UCSB All-American attacker Ashley Antoon-Algieri is the new head coach for the women's lacrosse club at SBCC. Antoon-Algieri graduated from UCSB in June after a storied four year career that saw her become the leading all-time scorer in program history. The San Ramon, California native was a two-time captain with the Gauchos and finished her career with 295 points from 203 goals and 92 assists. Her senior year she eclipsed the century mark with 101 points from 81 goals and 20 assists. Antoon-Algieri has been coaching with the SBLA for the last two seasons and will continue to coach youth lacrosse in Santa Barbara while guiding the SBCC program. During her junior year Antoon-Algieri's scoring contributions were slowed during a stint at midfield when she lined up at defense wing. It was a move made by UCSB head coach Paul Ramsey to try to take advantage of her quickness by putting her up on the center circle for draws and to let her use her innate defensive ability. The time playing both ends of the field may have kept her from scoring beyond the 300 point mark for her career but it will now help her as a coach. "If I could take that position change experiment back I would but it's going to help Ashley now that she's moved into coaching," said Ramsey. "She has experience playing all over the field to draw upon." Antoon-Algieri is pleased to now be able to contribute to the game as a coach at the college level. "Lacrosse is a sport of endurance, perseverance, and passion on and off the field," says Antoon-Algieri. "I look forward to building a relationship with the SBCC players so we can work together to achieve excellence together." In addition to the SBCC head coach position Antoon-Algieri will also be an assistant coach with the UCSB program as time allows. She joins first year assistant coach Anna Rogers, who is the new Head Field Hockey Coach and Assistant Women's Lacrosse Coach at UCSB. "Everything we're doing is aimed at providing a fantastic experience for the students in our programs," said Ramsey, who helps manage the SBCC club along with SBCC Faculty/Staff Advisor Angela Warren. "With both Anna Rogers and Ashley Antoon-Algieri on board we are in a position to provide the fantastic experience."
