UCSB Hires Anna Rogers as Assistant CoachJun. 28, 2011 Santa Barbara, CA - Anna Rogers has accepted the newly created Head Field Hockey Coach and Assistant Women’s Lacrosse Coach position with the nationally competitive sport club program at UC Santa Barbara. Rogers comes to the Gauchos from Elmira College in Upstate New York where she held the same position along with working for the Admissions Office as a College Fair Recruiter. The 2007 Old Dominion University grad has been the head field hockey coach and assistant women’s lacrosse coach at Elmira since Fall 2007. During her field hockey career at Old Dominion Rogers was part of two CAA Championship teams and four NCAA Tournament appearances. Her post at Elmira as head field hockey and assistant women’s lacrosse coach started in 2007, the same year she graduated from ODU. Rogers brings four years of field hockey and lacrosse coaching experience to UCSB. Rogers holds a USFHA Level II Coaching Certification. As the assistant women’s lacrosse coach at Elmira Rogers duties included the fitness and nutrition program as well as practice preparation, game preparation, and team management. Her field hockey responsibilities include those same duties along with recruiting, budgeting, fundraising and overseeing student academic success. Rogers earned her Bachelors of Science in Health & Physical Education at ODU along with getting a Sports Management Minor and an ASEP Coaching Certification. To further her education even more Rogers completed the Elmira College Masters of Science program in General Education concurrently with her two-sport coaching duties. Anna Rogers on getting the job at UCSB says, “I am extremely excited to be working for such an amazing University that offers endless opportunities for their students. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work and move into the Santa Barbara area, having visited the area a few times, I instantly fell in love with the cultural, atmosphere, and area. I am looking forward to being a part of and helping continue with the successful tradition of the field hockey and women’s lacrosse teams.” UCSB head women’s lacrosse coach and field hockey club advisor Paul Ramsey believes Anna coming to Santa Barbara is a great get for the programs. “Anna’s experience and qualifications are top notch,” said Ramsey. “It’s going to help us improve both programs having her here.” “Everyone on the hiring committee was impressed with her personality during the interview too so we think we have a winner in Anna Rogers.” Anna Rogers inherits a field hockey club that has experienced success. The team was 11-3-1 last season and finished 3rd in the NFHCA National Championship Tournament. The UCSB women’s lacrosse club has two teams and Rogers will be involved with both. The UCSB ‘A’ Team advanced to the US Lacrosse WCLA national semifinals this past May before losing to eventual champion Colorado State. Her role as assistant women’s lacrosse coach will also include being the ‘B’ Team head coach, replacing Jillian Boyd who left to work for a lacrosse company in San Diego. The UCSB ‘B’ team advanced to the WWLL B Division championship game before falling to Cal Poly SLO ‘B’ and getting the runner-up spot.
