Gauchos Defeat 16th Ranked Aztecs to Improve to 12-0

Alyssa Capuano Had 2 Ground Balls and 2 Caused Turnovers vs. SDSUSanta Barbara, CA - Top ranked UCSB sprinted to a 12-2 half-time lead against visiting San Diego State before coasting to an 18-4 win in a game at the Pit. UCSB outshot the Aztecs 43-10. The score was 9-0 in favor of the Gauchos before 16th ranked San Diego State got their first goal on a free position shot by senior midfielder Kristen Tucker. During the nine goal opening UCSB run senior Kristen Dickey (Davis, CA) and junior Katie Moran (San Rafael, CA) netted 3 goals apiece on a combination of assisted plays and free position shots for 6 of the first 9 tallies. Freshman Ashley Antoon-Algieri (San Ramon, CA), freshman Alyssa Nelsen (Denver, CO) and junior Kelsey Seitz (San Diego, CA) scored once each for the other 3 goals to make it 9-0 21:51 into the contest. Moran led everyone on both teams in the the plus column stats with 5 ground balls, 3 caused turnovers and 1 draw control.

UCSB continued to share the wealth against the Aztecs with 9 players scoring goals and 7 contributing assists. That included defender Monora Seth (San Diego, CA) when she scooped up a loose ball at the restraining line, dodged a defender and scored her first goal of the season. Seth had 3 ground balls and 4 caused turnovers to go with her goal. Freshman goal keeper Diane Clow (Poway, CA) had 2 saves and 2 ground balls to get the win.

The Gauchos improved to 12-0 overall and 10-0 in the WDIA. UCSB now has two BYE weeks as the players head into a week of final exams and a week of spring break. They resume play at University of Southern California in a mid week game at 7:30pm on Wednesday, April 2nd.
