Gauchos Going Dancing In WCLA National Championship Tournament

Baltimore, MD - The UCSB women's lacrosse team has received the tenth seed at the upcoming WCLA National Championship Tournament in Virginia Beach May 7th -10th.  The Gauchos play seventh seeded Colorado State University in the first round of sixteen teams. UCSB, an at-large berth recipient, recovered from a 5-5 start in their first ten games of the season to finish 6-1 in their last seven games. Colorado State edged the Gauchos 11-10 in a regular season match up in Santa Barbara February 15th. The Rams, 9-7 overall, won the Rocky Mountain conference championship tournament to get an automatic qualifer spot in the WCLA post-season tournament.

The Gauchos will conduct most of their preparation practices in the morning to get prepared for the three hour time change. UCSB heads east on May 5th and will practice at Old Dominion University on May 6th, before the May 7th first round game with Colorado State. It is the twelfth post-season appearance for the Gauchos.

Both teams have a similar strength of schedule. Thirteen of the seventeen games the Gauchos played this year were with ranked teams. Fourteen of sixteen Rams games were with ranked teams. The two ratios are among the highest in the country. Neither program ducks anyone that's for sure. The two teams meet at the Princess Anne Athletic Complex & Stadium at 2:00pm EST on May 7th. The winner will advance to play the winner of second seeded University of Florida vs. fifteenth seeded Boston College game being played the same day and time.

Two additional Western Women's Lacrosse League teams were selected for the post-season. They are 5th seeded UCLA and 6th seeded Santa Clara. The Bruins face the home team, so to speak, when they take on 12th seeded Virginia Tech. The Broncos play 11th seeded University of Colorado.
