Big Playoff Weekend Ahead for the BroncosApr. 16, 2009 The win over #2 nationally ranked Cal Poly this past weekend wasn't enough to bump Santa Clara over the Mustangs on this week's WDIA Top 25 Poll but it was enough to secure them the #2 seed at their league playoffs to be played this weekend at UC Santa Barbara. The Broncos finished the regular season with a 14-3 record and a WWLL North Division I Title but the road ahead only gets tougher from here on out. Santa Clara, currently ranked #3 nationally, will play a first-round game this weekend at 12:00 PM versus #25 San Diego State. The Broncos defeated the Aztecs 19-3 in their regular season contest back on March 14th. A win over the Aztecs will send the Broncos to the WWLL Semifinals where they would face the winner of #2 Cal Poly v #16 Pepperdine later that afternoon. The Broncos are currently in the middle of a four-game winning streak since losing to #7 Virginia Tech on their road trip to the Pittsburgh Tournament last month. A Cal Poly match up in the semifinals this weekend would be eerily similar to the 2008 season where the Broncos defeated the Mustangs on the last weekend of the regular season but could not pull off back-to-back weekend wins when they faced them in the semi's the week following. Opposing the Broncos on the opposite side of the playoff bracket is #1 UC Santa Barbara v #24 Arizona State and #9 UC Davis v #11 UCLA. The UC Davis v UCLA game might be the most exciting game of the weekend as this game sets up a rematch between the two teams. UC Davis won the first match up 12-11 in a nail bitter back on February 28th. The winner of Western Women's Lacrosse League playoffs will earn the automatic qualifier (AQ) to the WDIA National Championship Tournament to be held May 6-9 in Scottsdale, AZ. Playoff weekend is occurring around the country so follow the results and discussion on LaxPower's WDIA Ratings Page and the WDIA Forum.
