Local Junior High Schools To Offer LacrosseNov. 15, 2014 Santa Barbara, CA - All four local public junior high schools are going to offer lacrosse for boys and girls starting spring 2015. With the implementation of the new C.I.F. lacrosse teams at all three public high schools, Dr. Ben Drati, Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education, for the Santa Barbara Unified School District has started junior high school lacrosse. The inaugural programs will be After School Sports at Goleta Valley, La Colina, La Cumbre and Santa Barbara junior high schools. Drati recognized early the need for feeder programs at the younger ages and acted accordingly so the high school teams will be receiving experienced players as the girls move up in grades. All three local public high schools have added boys and girls lacrosse teams. The new C.I.F. programs at Dos Pueblos, San Marcos and Santa Barbara will compete in the Condor League with Cate, Dunn, Laguna Blanca, Midland and Thacher schools for the 2015 spring season. Athletic directors Dan Feldhaus at Dos Pueblos, Abe Jahadhmy at San Marcos and Joe Chenoweth at Santa Barbara have been busy getting ready to administrate the new teams. Local girls now have high school lacrosse programs to which to aspire. In a related move the Santa Barbara Youth Lacrosse Association, an affiliate program of the Santa Barbara Lacrosse Association, is going to offer after school programs twice a week in the spring at as many local elementary schools as possible. Restrictions include availability of coaches and field space but SBCC and UCSB women's lacrosse players are going to help out.
