Free Try It Sessions Next Two Fridays - May 10, 2018

  Sofia Crippa '20

Mission Lacrosse Club is responding to a request from a few parents of junior high school players to offer a free try it day for their daughters. MLC director Paul Ramsey sees this as a great idea. Girls just taking up lacrosse in town may see if they want to continue playing to further develop their skill level and Lacrosse IQ.

Ramsey has scheduled two free try it days that fit with the existing SB 14U practice schedule. The next two Fridays are free try it days at Mission Lacrosse Club practices since SB 14U practices are Mondays and Wednesdays.

Free Try It Sessions

  • Friday, May 11th, 4 to 6pm, at San Marcos High School.
  • Friday, May 18th, 4 to 6pm at San Marcos High School.

Participation is free but all families please complete a free try it registration.

Summer season practices are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 4 to 6pm at San Marcos High School.

Mission Going To Adrenaline's Americas Finest Rivalry - May 9, 2018

  Summer Martinez '20

Mission Lacross Club is participating in Americas Finest Rivalry, an Adrenaline Lacrosse event. Mission will play in three tournaments this summer. Battle of LA dropped their high school girls division so MLC has found a good first tournament to attend instead. Battle of LA June 9 - 10 is no longer on the MLC schedule.

Battle of LA is replaced by Adrenaline's America's Finest Rivalry June 16 - 17 at the Del Mar Polo Fields. The change is an improvement in many ways. It gets Mission on a polo field surface event and it is an event with far more teams than Battle of LA ever had, even in its heyday. Additionally, college coaches attend this event and there's always the chance of being spotted.

Required Participation Tournaments:

Adrenaline's Americas Finest Rivalry, June 16 - 17, 2018 in Del Mar, California.

  • Team hotel is TBD.
    • Hampton Inn Del Mar is sold out of QQ rooms and only has single Kings.
  • This event has a Stay & Play Policy.
  • Everyone must use the hotel we're assigned and we are working on a hotel now.
  • Travel day is Friday, June 15.

Santa Barbara Summer Showdown, June 29 - July 1, 2018 in Santa Barbara, California.

  • Home tournament!

Tribz Lacrosse Showcase, July 28 - 29, 2018 in Irvine, California.

  • Team hotel TBD.
  • Travel day is Friday, July 27.

Optional Events/Tournaments:

SB LAX Camp, July 9 - 12, 2018 at UCSB.

  • Discounted for Mission Lacrosse Club members.

SB60 Showcase, July 13 - 15, 2018 at UCSB.

  • Discounted for Mission Lacrosse Club members.

Mission LAX Training Week Two - May 8, 2018

Fitness Training Second Cycle:

  • Tuesday (5/8) - Warmup, stretch, run twelve repeat 100 yard sprints with a one minute recovery period between each sprint. Follow with six 30 second side plank series, alternating sides, or equivalent abdominal core exercises.  Finish with a warm down stretching session.
  • Thursday (5/10) - Warmup, dynamic stretching and a 35 minute training run. Follow with six 30 second front plank sessions or equivalent abdominal core exercises.  Finish with a warm down stretching session.
  • Saturday (5/12) - Warmup, stretch, run fourteen repeat 100 yard sprints with a one minute recovery period between each sprint. Follow with six 30 second side plank series, alternating sides, or equivalent abdominal core exercises.  Finish with a warm down stretching session.
  • Sunday (5/13) - Rest day.

Monday Training Is In The Stadium - May 7, 2018

Announcement:  The turf at San Marcos has opened up for the first training session today, Monday (5/7).  Practice will be on the turf in the stadium and not on the lower grass field.

Practice Starts Monday For Mission LAX High School - May 1, 2018

Practice starts Monday for Mission Lacrosse Club high school players whose CIF season is completed. The training session is 4:00 to 5:30pm at San Marcos High School on the Lower Grass Field, softball outfields.  The practice is followed by a 5:30pm all club meeting for parents and players. When the turf is available we will use it. When it's not we will train on either the softball outfield or the baseball outfield. The idea is to always be at San Marcos but take availability of a space there as it fits with the schedule of varsity teams still in season at the school.

Personal training for players starts on their own this week with the following workout schedule. These running times and number of repetitions assume there's only been moderate activity since the high school season ended. If a player has already started training then please add time and repetitions to these personal training sessions. These are minimum times.

Fitness Training First Cycle:

  • Wednesday (5/2) - Warmup, dynamic stretching and a 30 minute training run. Follow with six 30 second front plank sessions or equivalent abdominal core exercises.  Finish with a warm down stretching session.
  • Thursday (5/3) - Warmup, dynamic stretching and a 30 minute training run. Follow with six 30 second front plank sessions or equivalent abdominal core exercises.  Finish with a warm down stretching session.
  • Friday (5/4) - Warmup, stretch, run ten repeat 100 yard sprints with a one minute recovery period between each sprint. Follow with six 30 second side plank series, alternating sides, or equivalent abdominal core exercises.  Finish with a warm down stretching session.
  • Saturday (5/5) - Warmup, dynamic stretching and a 30 minute training run. Follow with six 30 second front plank sessions or equivalent abdominal core exercises.  Finish with a warm down stretching session.
  • Sunday (5/6) - Rest day.
  • Monday (5/7) - Team training at San Marcos High School lower grass field / softball outfield 4:00 to 5:30pm & player/parent all club meeting at 5:30pm.

Players should bring both flats and cleats to all team training sessions. Parents please bring your questions about our summer season and what we're going to accomplish on behalf of your daughters. Part of the meeting will be discussion about what it means to be a good teammate. Dialogue about this will be open and flow both ways.
