Welcome To Spring Lake Lacrosse 2020!

On behalf of the Spring Lake Lacrosse Board, I would like to welcome you to the 2020 season. Many changes have been implemented and we are excited to continue the tradition of Excellence, Growth and Development in the Spring Lake lacrosse programs.

We have secured a path to create even more opportunities within the program for all of our athletes. We have researched and have taken the opportunity to align our path with US Lacrosse and some of the top lacrosse programs in the state of Michigan. Developing the Spring Lake Lacrosse Culture is a major focus moving forward, and these changes reflect a new sense of purpose to engage the community and benefit the growth of our athletes.

We have attached the documents from the recent meeting and have included talking points for those were unable to attend
Parent Meeting Powerpoint can be found here: https://laxteams.net/files_public/1/1037/files/2020/SL_LAX_PARENT_MEETING-FINAL_EDITION_For_Distribution.pdf

Additional Comments

Two talking points in the SL Lacrosse Community have been floating around, and I would like to address both:

1. Girls Lacrosse-the Board has been committed to creating equality between the boys’ and girls’ program. We are proud of the growth and opportunities that have been afforded on the girls’ side with SL Lacrosse. Please remember that there is a wide gap statewide in the maturity of the programs. While Spring Lake continues to thrive on the girls’ side, the sport in general has not grown as fast at a state level. Tangible assets such as availability of coaches and schools participating is showing much slower growth than what we have seen on the boys’ side. We remain committed to providing the same passion, funding and opportunities as the boys’ programs and will diligently continue the path to find qualified non-parent coaches at all levels.

2. Boys Youth Lacrosse-the direction of the program to continue the path to compete at the highest level provides opportunity for SL Lacrosse to join the Michigan Lacrosse League (MLL). The league consists of the finest programs in the state (see the attached document). This new league will require some travel and a much more challenging schedule of opponents. The SL Lacrosse Evaluation schedule is included in the attached document. Nonparent coaches will be running the evaluations with the goal to place each player on a specific team based on skill level and athleticism. Our priority is to consider every player’s current evaluation to make sure that we place our athletes on SL teams where they can compete and find success on the fields.

We realize that the MLL may not be an ideal fit for every family. Please discuss with your athlete if this is the best route for your family. We will need to know by March 10 if you decide to opt out of this level of commitment and play as we need to submit rosters to the league immediately after evaluations. This will help avoid any confusion and provide opportunities for the athletes that choose this path prior to the start of the season.

How can YOU help?

1. Have your player(s) to practice and games on time as requested by the coaching staffs
2. Support the TEAM and your player with positive actions on and off the field per the SL Lacrosse Code of Conduct. The coaches are volunteers and we are appreciative of their commitment to create a positive environment and specific development of our athletes.
3.  Coaching, team management, Club Committees, Game Day Volunteers…How Can You Help?

The CRUCIAL Part Sponsorships-do you own a business or are employed at a business that is interested in sponsorship of the SL Lacrosse program? We are a self-funded program and any improvements for our athletes’ experiences rely on sponsorships and fundraising.

GET INVOLVED! We Need You!!
Thank you for your commitment to Spring Lake Lacrosse. We look forward to another year of growth in the organization and development of our athletes.

GO LAKERS!!
