Mississippi State Lacrosse
FAQWhy would I want to play lacrosse at MSU? There are many reasons. Academically, Mississippi State University is one of the premier engineering schools in the southeast. Similarly, our agricultural science program consistently ranks in the top five in the country. MSU also holds distinguished awards in Meteorology and Landscape Architecture and is the largest university in the state, with over 20,000 enrolled students as of the fall of 2011. Despite the size, MSU boasts a 20:1 student to faculty ratio! MSU also offers many academic scholarship oppurtunities. Last year, out-of-state students who scored a 25 or higher on the ACT were eligible to receive a full non-resident exemption of their out-of-state tuition (in other words, a complete out-of-state tuition waiver). Also, MSU students have the unique opportunity to watch Southeastern Conference Football, Basketball, and Baseball. From a lacrosse standpoint, MSU offers you the chance to compete intercollegiatelly at the club level. This means you are free from the time commitment of playing for an NCAA program, yet you still get to compete in lacrosse. But what exactly is a club team? A club team is one that is student-run, meaning it receives very little support from the university. Almost all of our responsibilities are covered by students and our volunteer coaches. How much are dues? Our dues are extremely affordable when compared to other teams in the South
What league are you in? We compete in the National Collegiate Lacrosse League (NCLL) Deep South Conference. This includes Middle Tennessee State, UT-Chattanooga, and Tennessee Tech. We also play games out of conference with MCLA D1 teams like Memphis, Alabama, Auburn, and LSU. We also schedule NCAA D3 opponents like Rhodes and Millsaps. Where are your players from? Current or past players have hailed from states such as New York, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Texas, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi. How often do you practice? We practice two days a week in the Fall and three days a week in the Spring. Where do you play your home games? We play our home games on the MSU intramural/club field, located just south of campus. How many games do we play? We usually play 2-3 games in the fall semester and 8-10 games in the spring, traveling and playing on weekends. Does the NCLL Deep South have a conference tournament? Yes. The tournament is played in late April, and the winner advances on to the NCLL National Tournament, which will be hosted by Penn State this year. If I am interested, how do I get info on how to join the team? Easy. Simply contact VP Paul Balmes bpb137@msstate.edu
