MSU cruises to victoryMar. 24, 2012 The Dogs (3-2) handled a scrappy University of Memphis squad on Saturday, winning by a 12-6 margin. Dan Hester opened the scoring for the Dogs, when he ripped a right hander from outside. Memphis then responded with a nice quick stick goal, tying the game 1-1. Ben Hester then fed Jake Lee, who finished in the crease to put the bulldogs on top, only to see Memphis tie it up 2-2. Both Hesters, Brandon Owens and Andrew Banker then scored successively for the Dogs, with Memphis scoring two, which made the half time score 6-4 MSU. After halftime, defenseman Kyle Cupples opened the third quarter by going coast to coast and scoring his first goal of the season. Ben Hester then fed Benjamin Bradley and Brandon Owens on back to back scores, with both players finishing on the crease. MSU closed the third quarter with attackman Richard Vollmer isolating a short stick behind the cage and finishing on the goalie, putting the score at 10-5. Early in the fourth quarter, Andrew Banker fed Benjamin Bradley, who scored on a left handed crank from the left alley. After Memphis added a goal, Matt Smith finished the day with an unassisted goal down the right alley. Nine different Bulldogs scored on the day, and MSU goalie Nathan Mcbride played the full game between the pipes. The game marks a sweep of the city of Memphis, with the Dogs beating NCAA Rhodes College earlier in the season. MSU hosts the Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech next Saturday at home.
