Coach Steck graduated cum laude from Claremont McKenna College in 2013. He received the Keck Science Department Award for the outstanding senior thesis in the physical sciences for his work titled, "Improving Non-Bonded Paramters in Biomolecular Simulation Using Advanced Fixed-Charge Models." While playing lacrosse at Claremont, Jon received the outstanding defense award in 2013 and was the rookie of the year in 2009.
