Allstate Sugar Bowl Lacrosse Classic 2/15Feb. 21, 2013 Tennessee 7: Florida State 14 – The Volunteers commenced the 2013 season at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Lacrosse Classic in New Orleans, LA against the No. 18 ranked Florida State Seminoles. Pan American Stadium in City Park was the venue for one of the first marquee match ups of the event. Seniors Barry Hillyer (Memphis, TN; Jacksonville U.) and Kevin O’Neil (Herndon, VA; Chantilly HS) led the scoring for the Vols, both netting two goals. In the first quarter, the Vols led FSU in shots with 11-9, cashing in twice. Three other Vols sophomores would all notch a goal a piece: Jack Donelan, Paul Dingee (Brewster, NY; Brewster HS) and David Fluharty (Millsboro, DE; Sussex Tech). Senior Goalkeeper David Catterton (Brentwood, TN; Brentwood HS) led the defensive charge with 18 saves along with stellar play and five groundballs from senior defender David Ruben (Memphis, TN; MUS). The Vols rallied from a 3-7 goal deficit in the third quarter with four goals to FSU’s three to go into the fourth quarter trailing 7-10. The game had been very hard-fought until then. FSU proved to be a strong competitor as they netted four unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to bring the final score to UT-7: FSU-14. The Volunteers will close out their Allstate Sugar Bowl appearance against the Texas A&M Aggies.
