End of Season UpdateMay. 24, 2012 The University of Tennessee men’s lacrosse club has put another season in the books. This season has been one of our more successful ones under Head coach Matt Synowiez. The Vols finished the season at 9-7 and made it to the SELC tournament semifinals for the first time since 2002, when they were defeated by Virginia Tech.
The Vols faced #17 Clemson in the first round and had a resounding 12-9 victory over the Tigers. Two players recorded hat tricks for Tennessee, Kevin O’Neil (Herndon, VA) and Jack Donelan (Brewster, NY) at three goals and one assist each. Six other Vols also made it onto the score sheet adding single goals, while goalie Jordan Blazer put up a brick wall in the net with 17 saves. The semifinal game against Virignia Tech came to pose a tough contest where VA tech defeated UT 2-10. Jack Donelan and Woody Kidd
(Burke, VA) added Tennessee’s lone tallies.
The Volunteers had six players receive All-conference honors this year and one player be selected to the SELC all-tournament team. Receiving first team honors and the all-tournament team was Mike Kinsey at defense. For the third straight season, John Honan received first team all-conference at shortstick defensive midfield. Chris Koloup was awarded second-team longstick midfield. Lastly, at honorable mention all-conference was: Chris McDonald at attack, Tyler “Woody” Kidd at midfield and Jordan Blazer at goalie. With a successful season in the books, the Volunteers are already hopeful for a strong season next year. So far what is looking to be another strong recruiting class with be heading to Knoxville next year to help keep the Vols rolling towards another successful season!
