Knoxville, TN – University of Tennessee head men’s lacrosse coach, Matt Synowiez, announced that the 2011 team captains would be senior John Wilson , and juniors Jordan Blazer, John Honan, Mike Kinsey, and Chris McDonald. The captains were decided by a vote by the team and the coaching staff.

“We have so many strong leaders in our program that this was a hard group to put together. Quite honestly we have 6 or 7 guys that are all 110% focused at all times and push the team to get better.  These 5 young men have been through some big wins and some big losses during their time here at Tennessee.  They have all earned the respect from their peers and the coaching staff and we are excited to have them lead us in 2011” said coach Synowiez.

John Wilson (Franklin, TN / Ravenwood HS/Gettysburg) has been a key member of the attack/midfield since he transferred from Gettysburg in the spring of 2008.  He is comfortable under pressure and can finish as well as create for others.  The Vols will be looking for John to ignite the offense when he is on the field.  His older brother Joe Wilson (Tennessee ’08) was also a captain and team vice president for the Tennessee program.

Jordan Blazer (Libertyville, IL / Libertyville HS) has been Tennessee’s top goalie since he arrived at Tennessee.  He is a phenomenal athlete and is very likely the fastest player on the team.  He has “one man clear” ability and has no problem initiating a fast break as well as consistently having one of the highest save %s in the MCLA. Was an honorable mention SELC Division 1 all conference goalie as a sophomore in the spring 2010 season.

John Honan (Germantown, TN / Houston HS) is without a doubt one of the top athletes in the program.  He picked up lacrosse late in high school but was a high level football player and converted to the game easily.  At 6’1 and 215 lbs with great quickness he can be a terror on the defensive end.  He is mentally and physically tough and is a natural leader. He was named the 1st Team SELC Division 1 short stick defensive midfielder as a sophomore in the spring 2010 season.

Mike Kinsey (Franklin, TN / Ravenwood HS / Air Force) will be looked upon to anchor the defense this spring with the unfortunate departure of 1st team all conference defenseman Sean Biolsi. Mike is also a force on the defensive end and has the ability to extend high pressure all over the field. Also one of the top athletes in the program and is very adept at handling the ball in transition. Was named honorable mention SELC Division 1 all conference at defense as a sophomore in the spring 2010 season.

Chris McDonald (Germantown, TN / Houston HS) will be asked to take charge of the attack and anchor that group with the graduation of 2nd team all conference attackman Jack Cleary.  Chris is ready and has gotten stronger and more confident every year he has been at Tennessee.  He is one of our top shooters and will be a huge piece of our offensive success this season.  Chris is a highly intelligent player and consistently makes the right decision with the ball.

The Volunteers look forward to starting the season January 29th against Mars Hill College and Sewanee University at the spring kickoff play day hosted at the University of Tennessee Intramural Turf field.
