2010 Fall Season Review

Bookmark and Share Printer Friendly Nov. 6, 2010

The University of Tennessee MCLA lacrosse program has closed the door on the Fall 2011 season.  The Volunteers are very excited about many new additions to the team and are looking forward to improving on last spring's 9-7 season.  The Volunteers raced out to a 5-0 start to the spring 2010 season before some key injuries exposed a lack of depth at several key positions. The Volunteers added 17 new comers replacing 6 graduated seniors from 2010 and Head Coach Matt Synowiez was very pleased about how the group came together in the fall. "When you bring in 17 new comers it can really change the dynamic of the program and I think we have gone through that to some extent this fall. These new student athletes have increased the competition level and overall intensity within the program. I believe our returning players were also energized by seeing the talent level that has joined them. The guys are very excited to get the season going in January".

The lacrosse program has also seen a tremendous increase in the number of interested participants from the past.  "My first season back in the fall of 2005 I think we had about 26 or 27 guys interested in the program. Several of those guys had never played the game before. This fall we had 96 prospective student athletes on our beginning fall list and had roughly 80 that began the fall season, and finished the fall with over 50 players that intend on competing for the spring 40 man travel squad. We have come a long way in 5 full seasons. Our goal for the spring is to break into the top 25 in the nation and to stay there, as well as represent the SELC at the MCLA National Tournament, where Tennessee has not been since 2000." remarked Coach Synowiez.

The Volunteers had three competitive fall events with scrimmages against NCAA Div III Sewanee, MCLA Div 2 Tennessee Wesleyan and the University of Tennessee lacrosse Alumni team. A big thank you to Sewanee, Tennessee Wesleyan and our alums for the three games. The 2011 schedule has been released and the Volunteers are looking forward to a great spring 2011 season.

Go Vols!
