The Vols pulled out to an early 2-0 1st qtr lead despite having 5 players unavailable and another 9 players held out for the 1st qtr due to a minor team rule violation. GT was able to get on the board in the 2nd qtr but the Tennessee offense put in 2 more combined with a transition goal from defenseman Mike Kinsey for a 5-2 half time lead. GT came out fired up from half time and scrapped back for a 6-5 3rd qtr score but the Volunteers were able to score the first 2 goals of the 4th qtr to push the lead back to 8-5 before a late score to pull to within 2. Both goalies and defenses played extremely well and even though both offenses were able to create opportunities the goalies rose to the occasion to play very solidly in cage.
