#6 in the country Florida State too much for young Volunteers

The University of Tennessee lacrosse team battled the undefeated and 6th ranked team in the country Florida State Seminoles on Sunday in Tallahasse at Harkins Field.

The Volunteers finally started a game hot and caught the talented Seminoles off guard.  Tennessee jumped out to a 3-1 1st quarter lead on smart play by the entire team.  The second quarter started like the first with the Volunteers scoring first on a beautiful behind the back shot by freshman Kevin O'Neill (Herndon / Herndon , VA) to push the lead to 4-1.  Florida State isn't undefeated at 13-0 for no reason and a timeout by Coach Harkin proved helpful as the Seminole offense came alive.  FSU scored 5 unanswered goals to end halftime ahead 6-4.

The young Volunteers battled as best they could but just didn't have the legs to hold off FSU.  They extended their lead in the 3rd quarter and the game finished with a 13-8 win by Florida State.  This was a came most people expected FSU to win by 10+ goals and the Volunteers showed they will be a team to be reckoned with in the years to come.

We would like to thank FSU and Coach Harkins for hosting us as well as letting us be a part of Senior Day at FSU.  The Volunteers finish their season at 9-4, the best record under Matt Synowiez's tenure.  Synowiez's career win loss record now stands at 33 wins & 24 losses (58% win %) over 4 years.
