South Carolina victorious over Volunteers thanks to big 4th quarterFeb. 22, 2009 S. Collier scored four goals and two assists and H. Gosnell added 3 goals and 3 assist to lead South Carolina past visiting Tennessee on Sunday afternoon in Columbia. The Volunteers came into the game banged up from a big victory the day before at Georgia Tech. The game was close until the 4th quarter when South Carolina pulled away thanks to 6 goals. The Volunteers were forced to play without senior midfielder captains Kyle Bird and Chris White who were injured and unable to play. The Volunteers held on for most of the game but two games and banged up bodies playing against a fresh talented South Carolina team was too much for the young Volunteer club to overcome. The Volunteer scoring was led by freshman attackmen Patrick Stewart (MUS / Memphis) with 4 goals and 1 assist followed by freshman midfielder Kevin O'neal (Herndon / VA) with 2 assist and freshman Woody Kidd Burke / VA) with 2 goals.
