Head Coach Matt Synowiez took over the University of Tennessee lacrosse program in the fall of 2005 after previous Head Coach Alex White left to pursue other interest.  He was an assistant coach during the 2004-2005 season primarily helping with the offense.

Coach Synowiez grew up in Easton, Maryland and started playing in the 4th grade for the Talbot Lacrosse Association.  He played Defense from 4th grade through 6th grade in the TLA program.  He transitioned from Defense to Midfield in the 7th grade.  Matt again changed positions as a freshman at Easton High School when he moved to Attack.  He was primarily an Attackman until his junior year when he became a Midfielder/Attack combo player.  When Matt graduated from Easton in 1997 he had the opportunity to continue his playing career at Guilford College.  Guilford College is a NCAA Division III program and is a member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.  Matt was the leading scorer in the ODAC Conference his Sophomore year before a knee injury prematurely ended his season during their 5th game of the year.  Coach Synowiez rehabbed and continued playing his junior and senior seasons and graduated from Guilford College in May, 2001 with a Major in Business Management and a Minor in Accounting.

After graduating Coach Synowiez was chosen to join BB&T Bank's Management Development Program and was relocated to Knoxville, TN in January 2002 with a position as a Commercial Lender with BB&T.  Matt was quick to find the lacrosse community in Knoxville to continue his involvement with the sport he loves.  He became involved with the lacrosse community which lead to him being asked to join the University of Tennessee staff as an Offensive Assistant for the 2004-2005 season.

Coach Synowiez brings a broad depth of knowledge and experience to the University of Tennessee program having played every position except Goalie during his 20 years around the sport.  "My objective is to provide a varsity level playing and team experience for players interested in attending the University of Tennessee.  Not all players with NCAA DI, II, and III talent are interested in the level of commitment varsity programs require today.  Our goal at the Univ of Tennessee is to provide a varsity level experience while allowing players the freedom to enjoy a fuller, more well-rounded college experience.  We believe it is possible to do both and we work to mold a players time with us around what they desire and need from college life and lacrosse.  The lacrosse program is very lucky to have Rex Pringle, Director of Recsports, Ben Stubbs, Assistant Director of Programs, Brande Reed, Sports Club Director and the entire Club Sports Staff at the University of Tennessee.  They have provided a great, supportive platform to allow the team to grow and thrive at the level the players want.  We would not enjoy the success we do without their help as well as the University of Tennessee Admissions Department.  The entire program has the support of the University and we look forward to continuing to develop the program into a top 20 national program within the MCLA National Conference and the SELC (South Eastern Lacrosse Conference)."

"The lacrosse club has existed at the University of Tennessee for over 30 years.  Many great individuals have sacrificed blood, sweat, and tears for the Volunteer Lacrosse Program over that time.  We are committed to honoring what they founded and established while working to leave our own mark on this great program.  We look forward to bringing home another SELC Championship and representing the SELC and the University of Tennessee at the MCLA National Tournament in the near future"

"If you are interested in being a part of this tradition and proudly wearing the Power T please fill out our recruiting questionnaire and we look forward to meeting you."
