WWLL ChampionshipsSan Francisco, CA - The Western Women's Lacrosse League office released their championship tournament seeds and brackets for the April 20th - 21st play-off event being held at UC Santa Barbara. It's the play-offs and the UCSB 'A' Team and UCSB 'B' Team plus the SBCC team, administrated by UCSB, are all in the hunt for a championship.

The UCSB A-Side is the third seed in the WWLL Division One championship bracket. The Gauchos open up with sixth seeded Arizona State University in a quarterfinal game of an eight team bracket. SBCC is the second seed in the WWLL Division Two championship and will face University of Nevada, Reno in a semifinal of a four team bracket. The UCSB B-Side is the #1 seed in the B Division and plays their semifinal against UCLA 'B'.

Saturday, April 20th:

  • 10:00am - UCSB 'A' vs. Arizona State.
  • 12:00pm - UCSB 'B' vs. UCLA 'B'.
  • 4:00pm - SBCC vs. Nevada, Reno.

All three games are on the UCSB Recreation Center Sports Complex stadium field. It is the first time a program has put three teams into the WWLL Championships.

The UCSB 'A' team finished the regular season 12-5 overall and 2-1 in WWLL Central Region play. The UCSB 'B' team finished the regular season 10-6-1 overall and 8-0 for their WWLL B Division schedule. SBCC finished 7-5, 6-1 playing a national schedule for the first time.

Games start on all three turf fields at UCSB at 10:00am on Saturday. Only the Divison One bracket has quarterfinals while Division Two and B Division teams jump right into semifinals. The Division One teams endure through quarterfinals and semifinals in 10am & 2pm or 12pm & 4pm brackets. The end of their first game and the start of their second game will be only about two and a half hours apart. The reward for the quarterfinal winners, though, is moving inside UCSB Harder Stadium for play on the best natural grass Bermuda surface in all of Central California.

"Advancing through this tournament takes a combination of loving lacrosse, mental toughness, talent and getting excited to play," says UCSB head coach Paul Ramsey, "and we have that on all three of our teams."
