UCSB Ranked 6th In First Regular Season PollFeb. 29, 2012 Baltimore, MD - UCSB is ranked 6th in the nation in the U.S. Lacrosse WCLA poll released today. The Gauchos were 7th ranked in the U.S. Lacrosse pre-season poll released in January and moved up a spot for this first regular season rating. UCSB is 6-1overall with wins over the pre-season ranked #3, #8 and #19 teams along with an 11-8 loss to the pre-season #9, University of Michigan. The Wolverines are now the #2 ranked team in the country at 4-1 overall. The Gauchos record versus ranked opponents is 4-1 and against unranked teams UCSB is 2-0. Four more ranked opponents are on the schedule for the Gauchos in their 6 remaining regular season games. This includes the 10th ranked club from UC Davis coming to town to play UCSB on Saturday. The Aggies were ranked 2nd in the pre-season poll but three 1 goal losses to nationally ranked teams have them 2-3 overall. UC Davis dropped close contests to top ranked Florida 13-12 in overtime, 3rd ranked Chapman 15-14 and 13th ranked and defending national champion Colorado State 10-9. "Any of those three one goal losses for UC Davis could have gone either way so despite being 2-3 they are a dangerous team, maybe even more dangeous because they're 2-3," said UCSB head coach Paul Ramsey after he saw the poll. "There's a reason they were pre-season #2 so we're certainly looking to bring our A-Game on Saturday."
