UCSB 'B' Team Wins Opener at Home

The UCSB 'B' team opened up with a 17-6 win against UC Irvine today on UCSB Rob Field. Captains Kelly Boyle (Poway, CA), Kerri Kowsky (Tustin, CA) and Mackensie Minniear (Dublin, CA) were eager to take the field to face the Anteaters of Irvine.

The team started the game off scoring a minute and twenty five seconds into the game and did not stop until the final horn sounded. Lily Lai (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA) and Captain Kerri Kowsky tied for the most goals scored of the day with four each.  Kowsky also let the team in points, adding two assists to her strong game performance. Megan Hughes (Santa Ana, CA), a transfer from Orange Coast College, earned her first collegiate win in goal, stopping double digit shots and firing out strong clears.

The team looking consistently strong for all sixty minutes cleared their bench with every player contributing to the Gaucho’s season opener win.  Holding UC Irvine to only six goals, both attack and defense show promise for the upcoming season. From the field the team demonstrated hustle, teamwork, intensity, and discipline. Enthusiastic with their win, but looking forward to getting back to practice to continue to grow and improve, the team is hungry for more.

The "B" Team heads to Arizona next weekend to looking to face Arizonia "B" and improve their record to 2-0.
