UCSB Advances to WWLL Semifinal With 21-14 Win Over BerkeleyApr. 16, 2011 Santa Barbara, CA - UCSB broke open a close game with a 9-3 second half over the 17th ranked club from UC Berkeley in a WWLL Championship Tournament quarterfinal game. The 7th ranked Gauchos won 21-14 after leading 12-11 at halftime. UCSB advances to a semifinal matchup with 4th ranked Santa Clara this afternoon. The 2nd seeded Broncos were 17-9 winners over Arizona State in their quarterfinal. UCSB was without the services of their 3rd leading scorer. Junior attacker Maegan Cruse (San Diego, CA) has 33 goals and 18 assists on the season so far but is out with a strained quadricep. The date of her return to the line up is uncertain but it is not likely to be this weekend at the WWLL Championship. The UCSB defense clamped down on Berkeley in the second half. After allowing 12 first half goals UCSB limited the Bears to just 3 goals on 9 shots in the second half. Jeni Centner (Tustin, CA) had 15 saves. Senior Ashley Antoon-Algieri (San Ramon, CA) led all scoreres with 8 goals and 1 assist. The Gauchos improve to 12-6 with the win while UC Berkeley drops to 8-5.
