UCSB Makes Quick Work of ChushikokuOct. 30, 2010 Waikiki, HI - UCSB women's lacrosse opened play at the Hawaii Lacrosse Invitational with a 14-2 win over Chushikoku Under-20 from Japan. The Gauchos led 7-2 at halftime and followed that up with a 7-0 second half. Most of the UCSB goals came on assisted plays in transition but the Gauchos showed a penchant for changing it up a little bit. Oftentimes someone on the field would call out directions and UCSB slowed it down to run an offense. Then the Gauchos fastbreaked off the next draw for a quick goal. It was a good mix of tempos to establish a change of pace in play. No individual stats were kept. Everyone got into the game so all 18 players on the trip saw action. Next up for UCSB is another pool play game with The Eh Team, a club from Vancouver, Canada at 1:30pm in Kapiolani Park. Pool play is the format for the Hawaii Tournament this year, a departure from the use of seeded brackets in the past. UCSB is in Pool A with the top Hawaii team, Eleu, and Chushikoku and The Eh Team. In the other pool is defending champion Team Breakaway from Seattle, Hokkaido Under-20 and West Coast Force. Only the top team in each pool advances to the championship game for this tournament. The standard A1 vs. B2 and A2 vs. B1 cross-over semifinals are absent from the schedule.
