Gauchos Edge 3rd Ranked Colorado

Santa Barbara, CA - UCSB played 3rd ranked University of Colorado in the final game for each team in the 22nd Annual Santa Barbara Shootout Sponsored by Brine and came out on top 8-6. The 2nd ranked Gauchos held a slight 4-3 lead going into halftime but then fell behind 4-6 in the first 5 minutes of the second half. From that point UCSB held the Buffaloes scoreless over the final 25 minutes of the game while scoring 4 goals to take an 8-6 lead with 8 minutes remaining.

Both teams had some chances over the next 5 minutes but couldn't solve each other's defense and goal tending during that time.  Sophomore goalie Jeni Centner (Tustin, CA) had 11 saves for 64.7%. Centner turned back the last 4 shots on goal Colorado mustered and that helped clinch the win for UCSB. After that the Gauchos did their best to hang onto the ball over the last three minutes in the face of the Colorado pressure. They were successful and improved to 6-0 overall on the season.

UCSB senior midfielder Maggie Aker (Oakland, CA) led all scorers with 4 goals and 4 other Gauchos scored a goal each. The Gauchos host 16th ranked BYU in an 11am game in Harder Stadium on Monday. The game is a double header of sorts with the UCSB men hosting BYU at 1pm on the UCSB Lacrosse Field (aka The Pit) a few hundred yards away.
