UCSB Midfielder Maggie Aker Wins Turkey Trot 10K
Nov. 21, 2009  Santa Barbara, CA - UCSB senior midfielder Maggie Aker was the top female finisher and 7th overall in the annual Turkey Trot at the UCSB Lagoon. Using the UCSB cross country team's 10K course, but somehow making the 6.2 mile course 6.6 miles this year, the Turkey Trot is an annual staple of the distance running community in Santa Barbara. Aker, a cross country runner at Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland, CA, finished in 48:20 for an average of 7:30 per mile on the hilly, loopy, sometimes sandy, often potholed course.
In addition to leaving the runner she intended to shadow far behind Aker passed multiple male competitors on her way to the finish line to place 7th overall in the race.
