Gauchos Advance Again with Win Over Bruins
Santa Barbara, CA - It took overtime but UCSB bested the Bruins to advance to the WWLL Championship game. The Gauchos led UCLA 7-6 at halftime but the Bruins scored one more than UCSB in the second half and it was tied 11-11 at the end of regulation. A fastbreak assisted goal with a pass from junior Brittany Barry (Basking Ridge, NJ) to sophomore Ashley Antoon-Algieri (San Ramon, CA) in the first 39 seconds of overtime proved to be the eventual game winner as no more scores were had by either team over the final 5:21 of the most goals wins overtime period. UCSB will play 3rd ranked Santa Clara at 2:00pm on Sunday in Harder Stadium at UCSB for the WWLL Championship. The Broncos came back from being down 8-10 to score three straight goals and steal the win from 2nd ranked Cal Poly SLO in the other WWLL semifinal.
