UCSB Picks Up 13 of 15 First Place Votes in WDIA PollApr. 1, 2009 Baltimore, MD - UCSB women's lacrosse was distanced from the rest of the pack when the voters in the WDIA National Top 25 Poll listed UCSB as their top team on 13 of 15 ballots. The 11-2 Gauchos haven't played since March 14th. Second ranked Colorado did play and won easily, 20-2, in a game with unranked Wyoming to improve to 12-2 overall. Third ranked Cal Poly SLO was idle. The order of the Top 3 was changed in the March 25th poll when UCSB edged Colorado for the top spot even though both teams hadn't played that week. The Gauchos moved up over the Buffalos, who pulled in the other two first place votes this week. UCSB and Colorado will play each other only if they meet in the post-season. Both UCSB teams resume play this weekend when they travel to Stanford to play in the Western States Tournament April 4-5. The UCSB 'A' Team will play 22nd ranked Texas and 15th ranked Michigan State on Saturday. The Gauchos face 25th ranked Oregon in their only game on Sunday. The games against three ranked opponents will make for 14 games against Top 25 Teams out of the 16 matches of the season UCSB will have completed by the end of the day Sunday. The UCSB 'B' Team, 9-4 overall, will pick up four games at the tournament. The Gauchos open with UC Davis 'B' and University of Nevada, Reno on Saturday. Their Sunday schedule will be determined based on results of bracket play.
