UCSB Moves Up to Third in the Nation

Bookmark and Share Printer Friendly Mar. 4, 2009

Baltimore, MD - UCSB improved their record to 8-2 last week and their 14-13 over-time win over then 2nd ranked Cal Poly SLO was good enough for the pollsters to move UCSB up from 5th to 3rd in the USL WDIA Top 25 Poll released on Wednesday. The voters bumped UCSB over Michigan (4-2), a team that had previously held the #3 spot for two straight weeks, despite the Wolverines having bettered the Gauchos 7-6 on February 13th at the Santa Barbara Shootout. Cal Poly SLO (5-2) dropped to 5th in the poll behind Michigan despite having beaten them 7-6 on February 14th. #1 Colorado improved to 11-0 with multiple wins at the A-Town Showdown in Atlanta, Georgia last weekend and were a unanimous pick for the top spot they've held since week 1 of the poll.

The Gauchos take on a #2 for the second time this season when they travel to Santa Clara for a game on Sunday. Santa Clara (7-1) improved from the 3rd spot to 2nd in the poll this week. Before they can get to that game UCSB must get past 20th ranked Chico State (4-3) on Saturday in a game being played at Pioneer High School in San Jose as part of a youth festival. Eight Under-13 and Under-15 teams are playing during the day with the feature match being UCSB vs. Chico State at 2:30pm.
