21st Annual Santa Barbara Shootout Starts FridayFeb. 12, 2009 Santa Barbara, CA - The Santa Barbara Shootout starts Friday at 3pm when Colorado State University faces Miami University of Ohio and University of Minnesota, Duluth faces the University of Georgia in side by side action on the twin turfs at UCSB. It's the 21st Annual version of the event, officially making it older than more than half the participants. That's some history and tradition you don't get at too many west coast lacrosse events. The two above-mentioned match-ups are the first of 103 games being played over three days. The Shootout is a set schedule event with pre-determined match-ups in five different divisions of play. No champion is crowned. Instead teams select their top six choices of opponents and get four to five of them, depending on whether they come in early to play a game on Friday. This year the modified schedule in place because of the impending rain storm funnels a lot of games onto the turf fields and creates some 2 on Friday, 1 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday schedules but everyone is still getting at least four games. The Shootout was recently featured in a February 9th article in Lacrosse Magazine On-Line written by Jac Coyne, who is coming out to Santa Barbara in person to cover the event. Coyne has also been blogging daily on his prep for the trip and will continue throughout the Shootout. It is also he complete schedule and a field map is on the Shootout page of this website for anyone who would like to download it. Admission is free to all games.
