Revised Rain Plan Schedule for the Shootout

Santa Barbara, CA - The rain plan schedule for the 21st Annual Santa Barbara Shootout has been released and is available on the Shootout page here on the UCSB women's lacrosse website.  This schedule removes as many games as possible from the grass fields and puts them on the turf next to the UCSB Recreation Center (RecCen). Games will start as early as 8:00am and as late as 10:30pm on the turf under the lights. The UCSB Recreation Department also committed to the use of up to four grass fields no matter what happens with the rain that is forecast for Friday through Sunday.

"There are a lot of teams coming in for this event from far away," said Jon Spaventa, Director of Exercise & Sports Studies and Recreation (ESSR) during a Wednesday afternoon meeting to finalize plans.

"We can't turn them away," concluded Spaventa.

ESSR is the department with oversight of the UCSB Recreation Department and employs the staff that manages all athletic facilities at UCSB. Gary Jurich, Assistant Director in charge of facilities, and Sport Club Coordinator Taggart Malone all agreed at the meeting that the Shootout will happen.

UCSB head coach Paul Ramsey and captains Maggie Aker, Selina Eadie and Katie Moran attended the meeting but hardly had to say anything except thank you.

"The support here is tremendous," repeats Ramsey, something he's said before about UCSB. "It really is all about the student-athletes here in this department and everyone goes out of their way for them."

"It's easy to say no.  Our people say yes whenever they can," says Ramsey.
