UCSB Teams Have Big Weekend Coming UpJan. 27, 2009 Santa Barbara, CA - Both UCSB women's lacrosse teams have some excitement coming. The UCSB 'A' Team heads north for the CAL Play-Day on February 1st at UC Berkeley. Fourteen teams will compete in four 25 minute scrimmages each. The Gauchos have drawn a nice mix of college-club and NCAA Division One opponents. UCSB opens with a scrimmage against Western Women's Lacrosse League (WWLL) counterpart Chico State but then moves on to challenging match-ups with Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) members St. Mary's, Fresno State and Stanford. The schedulers saved the best for last for the Gauchos. The Cardinal are the three-time defending MPSF Tournament champions. The CAL Play-Day games are being held at Memorial Stadium and Maxwell Field, next to Memorial Stadium. The UCSB 'B' Team is at home for their season opener on Saturday, January 31st, at 2pm and takes on WWLL South D2 member Occidental College. The game is scheduled to start at 2:00pm on the turf next to the UCSB Recreation Center (RecCen). It is an inter-division contest for UCSB but it has some pretty big implications. The Tigers compete in the South D2 Division while the Gauchos compete in the North D2 Division. The regular season winner of each division receives an automatic bid into the post-season and the remaining two spots are awarded to at-large teams. A good record against the top three finishing South D2 teams improves chances for an at-large spot in the play-offs. Complete schedules for both teams are on the Schedule / Results page of the team website.
