Roster Set for WDIA National Championship Tournament
Santa Barbara, CA - The roster has been set for the WDIA top ranked UCSB women's lacrosse team going to the WDIA National Championship Tournament in Denver, CO. The Gauchos will travel with 25 players for the championships being held at Dick's Sporting Goods Park May 6th - 9th and Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium May 10th. The 17 player 'A' Team that competed their way to an 18-0 overall record during the regular season will be joined by 8 'B' Team players.
"We've had four practices since winning the WWLL Championship and everyone has meshed better than I could have hoped," commented head coach Paul Ramsey. "We are going to be deep for this tournament." That doesn't bode well for UCSB opponents. The Gauchos have substituted liberally all season and it's paid off with four come-from-behind wins in games that might have seemed lost, including two overtime wins. Add to that the statistic that nine players are averaging at least a goal a game and UCSB also has balance to go with their depth. "I really like the way the 'B' Team players stepped up in practice right away and started challenging our 'A' Team players," added Ramsey. "If they do that at the tournament when we work them into the games we can play right through the altitude at the pace we'd like to set for ourselves." Seven UCSB seniors, six juniors, six sophomores and six freshmen are making the trip. The Gauchos open play in Denver with a 1:00pm game vs. the WDIA club from Boston College. The Eagles are 9-0 and seeded 16th in the sixteen team field. BC won the NEWLA championship and automatic bid to the championship. UCSB WDIA Championship Tournament Team
